At the Alberta Retired Teachers' Association (ARTA), I was tasked with designing a meeting room wall mural that was bright and approachable to welcome visitors during meetings. We wanted a mural design that reflected the happy, vibrant, and active member lifestyles while also aligning with the ARTA brand. With a quick turnaround time of 1-2 weeks, including ideation, sketches, and design reviews, the design was approved, then printed and installed by Burke Group.
I created mood boards for three different concepts to show the Manager of Creative Services. After we narrowed in on the concept of "Bright, Abstract, & Geometric," I created thumbnails, sketches, and patterns with the ARTA members in mind.
There were a few goals that this mural was designed to accomplish.
Welcome ARTA members while representing the values and mission of the ARTA organization.
Be appealing, but not distracting. The mural should not be overwhelming or too bold as meetings are held in this boardroom with various stakeholders such as prospective members, current ARTA members, ARTA executives, and more.
After a few rounds of revisions and implementing feedback, two concepts with a warm and cool colour palette were presented to the Marketing Director. One option was purely geometric shapes with a thoughtful balance of colour and negative space, and the other featured iconographic images representing active, healthy lives in retirement.
